Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

I do current accept Horizon BCBS and Medicare plans.

What if you do not accept my insurance plan? Can I still see you for therapy?

I also accept out-of-network and self-pay clients!

If your insurance is not accepted as in-network with my office, I can provide you with a detailed receipt to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I also use a company, Thrizer, to submit out-of-network claims to select insurance companies for you! Thrizer does take a flat 3% service fee for their services.

All payment is due in full at the time of service.

I’ve never been to therapy before; what is it like and what will we do?

Whether you are new to therapy or not…welcome! It is a brave thing to seek help for your mental health and I hope you are proud of yourself for taking this first step!

The intake session is often the start of our “getting to know you” phase. I will review the office policies and procedures, as well as your history with mental health challenges and what brings you into therapy. I also simply want to get to know more about you as a person! What are your hobbies and interests? What are your family, friend, and romantic relationships like? What do you do for work or your grade in school? And try not to worry about feeling like we have to discuss EVERYTHING on the first day. We start slow and I am simply trying to understand how I can best help you and what we need to focus on in future sessions.

Throughout our time in therapy, we will work together to dive into your challenges and I will help you learn coping skills, as well as other therapeutic techniques to challenge irrational or intrusive thoughts, and to feel like you have a better understanding of your mental health.

What is the difference between psychiatry and therapy?

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (an M.D. or D.O.) who specializes in mental health, including substance use disorders. Psychiatrists are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems.

Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy or usually just "therapy," is a form of treatment aimed at relieving emotional distress and mental health problems. Provided by any of a variety of trained professionals—psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, or licensed counselors—it involves examining and gaining insight into life choices and difficulties faced by individuals, couples, or families.
